Fortnite recently announced that they will be lowering the age requirement down to 13, this means a lot of potential young talented players are now able to compete at the World Cup. However, two things can still stop them competing, their legal guardian or laws within their country of residence.
We have no idea of the laws for each country, and a lot of confusion is going on regarding this. However, getting legal counsel on this must be something serious players should seek.
We had a talk with Benjyfish about Epic lowering the age limit, and what this means for him and his duo MrSavage.
Benjy is a young talented player from the UK, which at an age of 14 already made his entrance as one of the most talented players in the Fortnite community, and him being able to compete at the level as some of the professional players in the scene.
“They are very supportive, and they want me to try my hardest to qualify”

As one of the requirements for his participation is the consent of his legal guardian, he naturally told his mother straight away, that he would now be old enough to compete. His parents are generally supportive of the idea of him playing at a competitive level, and supports his dreams of being a pro player.
However, they still want him to prioritize school, as a career within esports is filled with uncertainties and does not necessarily means a fixed income for the remaining of one’s work life. So he will stay on top of school and keep his studies going, and when he is done with them, he would have time to play the game. But keeping a focus on both Fortnite and School will mean that the pressure rises on Benjy. Although at this point no problems have occurred between finding a balance with Fortnite and school.
However, Fortnite affects his everyday life, as a bad game can influence his mood for the rest of the day, and this is something that could potentially cause problems for the young talented player in the future.
Benjy always hoped for Epic to lower their age requirements, as he feels like he is top 100 EU Solo player and a top 50 duo player with MrSavage. So he is naturally happy about the chance for him to compete, but won’t be focussing on the money, as it will draw the attention away from him improving. He believes the money would blindside him, and could potentially make him burnout so he will focus on improving and becoming a better player instead of focusing on the money he can potentially earn.
Benjy and MrSavage is not officially a duo, Benjy and MrSavage just enjoyed playing alongside each other, Benjy will be exploring opportunities as a free agent with the new rules.
We wish Benjy the best for the future and good luck in the upcoming tournaments.
