Fnatic Jarl was one of the 4 players Fnatic had at the event, he was playing alongside Pow3r in the duo competition, where they placed 29th. In the solo competition Jarl placed 81st. Jarl did not win any of the prize money at this event.
We had a talk with Jarl about his performance, and how he can use this going forward in his career
Were ESL a failure for Jarl?
Jarl and the Fnatic team manager Victor Bengtsson said, that the primary goal for the tournament was not to win prize money. The primary goal were to gather experience, in terms of being better players for the future.

“For both solos and duos i feel like i have learned more than from any tournaments “
– Fnatic Jarl
Jarl believes he deserved the placements he got, he had some difficulties handling his nerves, and getting the right setup for the solo tournament. But as this was his first LAN event, he learned a lot in terms of which mistakes were made, so he can now improve the things he considers as a weakness, and become a better player in the future.
Jarl realized the importance of multiple drop spots, because the constant changes in Fortnite, which means that the map can change at any time.
Jarl also learned it the hard way, when he was trying to land new spots. He was lasered almost immediately when trying to glide to a spot. The reason for this, was the players he tried to contest, knew the spot very well.
Jarl believes he played better in the duo competition alongside Pow3r, he knew he made a lot of mistakes, but he also did some things the right way. This means Jarl will continue will this play style, and just improving it for the future.
Jarl will focus on what lies ahead, he will be preparing himself for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers. Jarl believes he has a advantage, as he have now been playing in what many believe is the most stacked lobbies. From this experience he can take advantage in future events. He will be looking back on his mistakes, and will be making some decisions so that he can preform the best in the future.
The ESL Event
As this was the first LAN Event for Jarl, he did not know what to expect of the event organizer. However, Jarls experience at ESL was amazing due to the great management and caretaking of the players. The only thing Jarl believe ESL could have done differently were when to restart the games. One of the big problems at ESL, was when players did not get into games, and ESL decided not to restart. Jarl believes that this is an issue, as it would be RNG based who got into the game.
The point system was in Jarls opinion “Spot on”, because every kill and position mattered, which rewarded consistency. The only problem is that the 5 points pr kill is constant. And he believes by making a “kill spree” bonus, where the more kills you get the more point pr kill could lead to a better game. This could also lead to more people taking chances in the early game.
What was the best and worst at ESL?
According to Jarl the event was well ran, and they were able to play on a stage, and the meeting of everybody at the event, was the best 3 things about ESL. The worst things according to Jarl was the high amount of bugs in the game. Also the long period of time you are expected to be focused is 7 hours a day, with no large break, only minor breaks between the game. Jarl believes one big break in the middle could be good. Jarl was also sick from day one, and this was by far the worst thing, however this is not something ESL can control.
The social experience by a lan
Jarl is one of many who enjoyed the LAN as a social event, some of the worlds best players were flown out, and a lot of Jarls online friends was a part of these players. This meant that Jarl got to meet his fellow teammates, and some other top competitors, and will be an experience that Jarl wont forget.
We appreciate and wants to thank Jarl for the future, and wishes him the best for the future!
