The last few days with the recent pop-up cups, there has been a lot of debate about whether or not the point system is fair. First of all the point system is broken, some players are losing points, and some players are not getting the points they should have. That is a big mistake, and points should be awarded, let’s hope this will get fixed as soon as possible.

Epic has tried a lot of things in terms of how points are calculated, and how points are given. At some point, there was no kill incentive, which made people turtle for the entire time, which meant a lot of time without action in the fights, because there was no reason to take a fight. That is not something that should ever be in an esport, there needs to be some sort of action at most times, no one wants to see 10 minute of farming just to be followed up by turtling for the next 15 minutes, which ends in a heal off.

So Fortnite added a bigger kill incentive, which means you now can earn points based on the number of players you eliminate, which is a good thing, this incentive is helping players to take fights, to get the edge on their opponent in terms of points. But this is also where the good thing stops, the point system should be changed.

We had the first Solo LTM, where you were credited for kills and placements, this was a good thing, right now you are still credited for it. But at this point coming 100th and 11th is the same, which is just bad for morale and the game. It means you can waste 20 minutes on nothing, or just die right away, it does not matter. You can kill 3 people and get one point, and you can come 11th and get nothing.

Our opinion is that every kill and placement should count, making every kill count, will also mean that if you have 0 kills, and see an enemy that you can eliminate, but does not take the fight because it is unlikely you will get 3 kills and gain a point. With a system which profits every kill, you will see people going for that one kill if the odds of the fight are in their favor, which will lead to more action game.

Now the placement thing, it needs to be changed, however counting from 50 or 25 places, that when you get inside here, you will be able to secure a point, this also benefits the players who are gaining top 20 consistently giving them points. At this stage you can end 11th and having 2 kills and getting nothing, the same as the guy in 99th place with 0 kills, this is not fair for anyone.

Implementing a chance that will reward every kill and every placement will also give a better image of where the players are located in top 100 so that we get more information about the players just outside the top.

However, this will also mean that you can’t just perform well and get lucky in 1 game and secure 8 points if you do not gather any points in the other games you are playing. At this stage often you see that one good game can bring you top 5, with a system that rewards everything this will be more unlikely, of course, you can get top 5 after a good game, but this requires that you have had some decent performances before.

So let us hope that Fortnite has something like Solo Showdown in store for us so that we keep both the kill incentive for the action and the placement game for the skilled players.
